SCM’s International Artist Competition aims to create an educational platform for up-and-coming marimbists from all over the world to network, compete, and grow professionally. Through the competition, we hope to discover promising young artists and help them launch their career in music.

We are happy to announce our 2nd season of our competition taking place online from June 18-20 and 25-27, 2021! The semi-final and final-rounds, along with the judges’ concert, will be livestreamed and open to the public.

COMPETITIVE CATEGORIES

SCHOLASTIC SOLO: $60 application fee (grades 9-12 at the time of registration)

  • 1st Prize: $500 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 2nd Prize: $250 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 3rd Prize: merchandise from our sponsors
  • 4th Prize: merchandise from our sponsors

COLLEGIATE SOLO: $90 application fee (ages 18-30 at the time of registration)

  • 1st Prize: $1000 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 2nd Prize: $500 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 3rd Prize: merchandise from our sponsors
  • 4th Prize: merchandise from our sponsors

OPEN DUO: $120 application fee (for all ages): marimba + any other instrument

  • 1st Prize: $1000 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 2nd Prize: merchandise from our sponsors
  • 3rd Prize: merchandise from our sponsors

HOW CAN I APPLY?

Applicants need to sign in with a Google account to access the form. EXTENSION: Applications are now due by January 24th.

Applicants must submit the following:

  • A complete application form, including sheet music and audio file(s)
  • Registration fee (see below)

After you submit both the online form and payment, SCM will send you an email to confirm that your application process is complete.

REGISTRATION FEES

Below are the registration fees for each category:

  • Scholastic Solo: 60 USD per application
  • Collegiate Solo: 90 USD per application
  • Open Duo: 120 USD per application

The registration fee can be paid through the PayPal links below after completing your online form. This fee is non-refundable. 

No PayPal account is required. Please select the Pay with Debit or Credit Card option if you do not have a PayPal account.

NEW: It is with great pleasure that we are announcing our new fee waiver application for our 2021 International Artist Competition! 

Thanks to our generous donors, we are offering several scholarships for students with financial hardship. These funds will be distributed in the form of competition fee waivers and microgrants to cover the cost of music education for marimba students. Applications for microgrants will be available early next year.

Anyone who is interested in applying for consideration may submit an application here. The form includes a short answer portion (300 words max.) and a required signature from a current or former teacher.

EXTENSION: The deadline to submit a fee waiver is now January 10th, 2021 @ 11:59PM PST.

COMPETITION DEADLINES

  • Application + audio submitted  –  January 24, 2021
  • Semi-finalists announcement  –  March 1, 2021
  • Semi-final + final videos submitted – May 1, 2021
  • Finalists announcement – June 20, 2021
  • Awards ceremony – June 27, 2021

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR APPLICATION

  • NEW: Applicants have the option to receive written feedback from our judges by request only
  • We will accept approximately 12 scholastic, 12 collegiate, and 6 duos for the semi-final round
  • Applicants selected for the semi-final round will receive the opportunity to participate in masterclasses, attend the judges’ concert, and network with some of the best artists of our generation
  • We will accept approximately 4 scholastic, 4 collegiate, and 3 duos for the final round
