Marimba Festival and Competition 2026

SCM is proud to host the “Mt. San Antonio College Marimba Festival and Competition 2026” to create an educational platform for College and High school age percussionists to network, learn from world class musicians, perform, and grow in their musical development. The Festival Competition welcomes regional and international musicians to showcase their talents in Marimba competition, Festival masterclasses.

About:

-Competition format, participants will have the opportunity to perform or participate in a variety of ways:

  1. Marimba Solo competition
  2. Masterclass, performing participant only, includes one ticket to the closing concert
  3. Audience member for competition, audience for masterclass, or audience for closing concert

Round 1- Preliminary Youtube entry, upon registration, upload ONE unedited, live performance marimba solo which showcases the participants musical, technical, and performance strengths. Solo MUST be minimum 4 minutes and maximum of 7 minutes. Recording must be recorded no eariler than January 2026. Top performers from round 1 will be featured on the Southern California Marimba Youtube page, and invited to Round 2 in person.

Round 2-Semi-Final In Person , Location, Mt San Antonio College, Walnut, Ca. Saturday July 25, 2026, participants invited to round 2 will perform in a 10 minute set, minimum 6 minute and maximum 8 minute performance time. Selected repertoire should reflect participants musicalilty, technical, and musical taste. Top Four performers will advance to the Final round.

Round 3- Final Round, In Person, Location, Mt San Antonio College, Walnut, Ca. Sunday July 26, 2026, participants invited to the Final round will perform a 15 minute Solo Set, minimum 12 minutes and a maximum 14 minute performance time. selected repertoire should reflect the musicality, technical, and musical taste level of a rising professional player. Competition first place finisher will be featured in the closing festival concert! Note: Finalists are encouraged to prepare a diverse selection of repertoire, with contrasting styles of genres, and musical periods.

Masterclass, festival participants will have the opportunity to perform in masterclasses on Sunday, July 25, with Festival guest clinicians.

Participant age limits: Open to High school and College age percussionists (includes Graduate and Doctoral students) , International performers, age 16 and up.

Location: Mt. San Antonio College, Building 2 rm 200, located in Walnut, California. 25 miles east of Downtown Los Angeles.
