2025 Marimba Festival Participant Guide
Preparation:
- Have a minimum of ONE solo unaccompanied marimba work, with a maximum of TWO solo marimba works (for two day participants) that best showcase your musical and technical abilities.
- You will have the opportunity to perform in each masterclass for Dr. Matthew Lau and Naoko Takada
- Top performers of each day will be selected to perform in the closing day Marimba recital!
- Top performers of the both days (2 day participates) will be selected by the faculty to win prizes provided by our sponsors!
Helpful tips for all Participants:
- You are welcome to visit our Database of Marimba Works by BIPOC Composers for repertoire suggestions. You are also welcome to perform transcriptions, adaptations, or arrangements for any round.
- We recommend highlighting your strengths and personality when selecting works to perform for this festival masterclasses.
- We suggest performing your pieces in front of many different audiences before attending. They can give you useful feedback and help you deal with performance nerves.
- Have fun! There are so many valuable experiences to gain from participating. We hope everyone will make new friends and grow into the best musician that you can be outside of this competition.
