SCM biennially hosts the International Artist Competition (IAC) to create an educational platform for marimbists to network, compete, and grow professionally in their careers.

*UPDATED JUNE 2022: The competition welcomes musicians to showcase their talents and compete in three categories: Scholastic Solo, Open Solo, and Open Duo. After an audio round via online applications, selected participants will compete in the semi-final and final rounds.

All events will take place online over 2 weekends from June 17-18 and 24-25, 2023. The semi-final and final-rounds, along with the judges’ concert, will be premiered on our YouTube channel and open to the public. The IAC will also offer valuable events throughout the live competition, such as the judges’ masterclasses, concerts, and networking opportunities.

CATEGORIES

SCHOLASTIC SOLO: not yet graduated from high school OR age 17 and under by January 1st, 2023

  • 1st Prize: $500 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 2nd Prize: $250 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 3rd Prize: merchandise from our sponsors
  • 4th Prize: merchandise from our sponsors

OPEN SOLO: already graduated from high school by January 1st, 2023 (no age limit)

  • 1st Prize: $1000 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 2nd Prize: $500 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 3rd Prize: merchandise from our sponsors
  • 4th Prize: merchandise from our sponsors

OPEN DUO: all ages (marimba + any other instrument)

  • 1st Prize: $1000 + merchandise from our sponsors
  • 2nd Prize: merchandise from our sponsors
  • 3rd Prize: merchandise from our sponsors

Applicants who are 17 and under who have graduated high school by January 1st, 2023 can choose either Scholastic Solo or Open Solo, but not both.

Participants may participate in both Open Duo and one other solo category.

COMPETITION DEADLINES

  • UPDATE: Application + audio submitted  –  February 1, 2023
  • Semi-finalists announcement  –  March 8, 2023*
  • Semi-final recordings submitted – May 1, 2023 (11:59pm PDT)
  • Final recordings submitted – May 15, 2023 (11:59pm PDT)
  • Finalists announcement – June 24, 2023
  • Awards ceremony – June 25, 2023
